Laws and Requirements for CHCL & E-CHCL

Basic CHCL: This is a minimum of 5 hours classroom instruction and 1 hour of range live fire time. You must be an Arkansas resident for at least 90 days, have no felony convictions, and be a minimum of 21 years old. Upon completion of the required course work and live fire time, you will be issued a training certificate. This training certificate, a completed application from the AR State Police, fingerprint card, and applicable state licensing fees, will be required in order to have your CHCL license issued. The team at AR Tactical Defense will have State applications and fingerprinting cards available so that you will be prepared to apply for your license the moment your training is complete! Students are given 6 months to send in a completed application packet from the time of course completion.

Enhanced CHCL: This is a minimum of 8 hours total course time. This course is for applicants who do not currently hold a valid CHCL issued within the past 10 years. Students will be required to complete a timed and scored shooting evaluation with a minimum score of 70%. An outline of the shooting course can be found here.

“Upgrade” to Enhanced: This is a minimum 4 hour course for those who currently hold a valid CHCL issued within the past 10 years. Upon completion of the “Upgrade” to Enhanced course, a new license replacement fee along with your course paperwork will need to be sent to the Arkansas State Police to receive your Enhanced endorsed license.
